چکیده

The giant interneuron pathways and escape reflexes of the aquatic oligochaete, Branchiura sowerbyi " (1987). While the most advanced technology has been used to photograph and reproduce this manuscript, the quality of the reproduction is heavily dependent upon the quality of the material submitted. For example: • Manuscript pages may have indistinct print. In such cases, the best available copy has been filmed. • Manuscripts may not always be complete. In such cases, a note will indicate that it is not possible to obtain missing pages. • Copyrighted material may have been removed from the manuscript. In such cases, a note will indicate the deletion. Oversize materials (e.g., maps, drawings, and charts) are photographed by sectioning the original, beginning at the upper left-hand corner and continuing from left to right in equal sections with small overlaps. Each oversize page is also filmed as one exposure and is available, for an additional charge, as a standard 35mm slide or as a 17"x 23" black and white photographic print. Most photographs reproduce acceptably on positive microfilm or microfiche but lack the clarity on xerographic copies made from the microfilm. For an additional charge, 35mm slides of 6"x 9" black and white photographic prints are available for any photographs or illustrations that cannot be reproduced satisfactorily by xerography. In all cases this material has been filmed in the best possible way from the available copy. Problems encountered with this document have been identified here with a check mark V .

Branchiura sowerbyi Beddard, 1892 (Oligochaeta: Naididae) as a test species in ecotoxicology bioassays: a review

Branchiura sowerbyi (Oligochaeta; Naididae; Rhyacodrilinae) is an oligochaete with great potential to be used as a testspecies in toxicology bioassays. Since 1950, its life cycle has been studied and nowadays it is well described in the literature. B. sowerbyi has a cosmopolitan distribution and can be found in places where Tubifex tubifex (normally used in toxicity bioassays) does not occur, e...

The life cycle of Myxobolus lentisuturalis (Myxozoa: Myxobolidae), from goldfish (Carassius auratus auratus), involves a Raabeia-type actinospore.

We studied a natural infection of the oligochaete Branchiura sowerbyi Beddard, 1892 with the Raabeia-type actinosporean stage of Myxobolus lentisuturalis Dyková, Fiala et Nie, 2002 which infected goldfish Carassius auratus auratus (L.) in Italy, using molecular analysis of the SSU rRNA gene. The existence of intraoligochaete development shows that this parasite follows the life-cycle pattern de...

Distribution of the Ponto-Caspian polychaeta Hypania invalida (Grube, 1860) in inland waters of Serbia

The aim of this paper is to present the distribution of the non-native species Hypania invalida (Polychaeta) within Serbian waters. In 1971, this species was found for the first time in the Danube and the Sava Rivers. According to our results, H. invalida is now widespread within potamon-type rivers that are under the influence of hydromorphological alterations and exposed to intensive ship tra...

From individual to population level effects of toxicants in the tubicifid Branchiura sowerbyi using threshold effect models in a Bayesian framework.

Effects of zinc were studied in the freshwater worm Branchiura sowerbyi using partial and full life-cycle tests. Only newborn and juveniles were sensitive to zinc, displaying effects on survival, growth, and age at first brood at environmentally relevant concentrations. Threshold effect models were proposed to assess toxic effects on individuals. They were fitted to life-cycle test data using B...

Copper-induced changes in locomotor behaviors and neuronal physiology of the freshwater oligochaete, Lumbriculus variegatus.

The behavioral and neurotoxic effects of copper exposure were examined in the freshwater oligochaete, Lumbriculus variegatus. The 24 h LC50 for worms exposed to copper sulfate in an artificial pond water was 0.45 microM. Almost all animals that died due to copper exposure died during the first day of exposure. Immersion in water containing 0.2 or 0.4 microM copper produced time- and concentrati...
